UPDATE#1, August 10, 2009, 11am Manila – I am finally awake with breakfast in the right spot and able to finalize this post!!!
I found these lovely photos online, from Joseph Kidlat Gonzales, the man behind the batangbaler.net website. I went to his website many times during the run-up to the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2009. Thanks much to Kidlat!
THOUGHTS:
– WOW! When I included Jane Banares in my Top 11 Picks, I had no idea she’d take the top spot in the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2009. I included her mostly because she was a gorgeous sunflower among roses. It was her hair that first caught my eye, then her light colored eyes which contrasted with her kayumanggi complexion. I totally approve of her win; a total dark horse, this one!
– Jacqueline Schubert, who won the Tourism title wasn’t in my initial shortlist of favorites. Mostly because I did not really see her shine in the photos I found of her online. That’s the difficulty when all you have to go by is photographs. There’s nothing like meeting the girls, getting to know them better and seeing them in the flesh. I recieved one comment from a person who was so upset that I did not include his candidate and that I should go to Aurora, see the girls in person FIRST then make my choices. He does have a valid point!
– Jennielyn Natividad was my Top Pick based on the photos I saw. She certainly has the bearing of a Beauty Queen and I’m hoping she works on her weak areas and joins another National Beauty Pageant.
– Beauty Expert Felix Manuel had a good question on his Facebook -Why was contestant #10 Anna Baladad of Texas crowned Ms Overseas when she was not even in the semi-finals? Hmmmm….
– By the way, I need to thank Nimki Soller Hameed (4th Runner-up Mutya ng Pilipinas 2005) for supplying me with text updates on pre-pageant and pageant information.

Congratulations to all the organizers of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2009 for another successful pageant! Out of my 11 Favorites, 10 made it into the semi-finals or won a special award! This is not a proper article as it is like 5am as I type and I want to get back in bed. So I won’t have any photos, just names of the winners.

Nakita ko silang lahat in person. And eye catcher naman si no. 5. Malayo ang itsura nila ni Mia ng SB. In fairness kay no. 5, maganda sya with or without makeup. And she has cute dimples! Simple lang pero malakas ang dating kasi charming at mukha syang smart. And I heard na matalinong bata naman daw talaga.

Talaga? So hindi talaga sya maputi? Hmm. Kasi nasearch ko sya sa friendster at facebook, at nakita ko yung mga highschool pictures nya, maputi naman sya and she still somewhat looks the same. Baka late bloomer lang? Saan ba kayo nag-highschool? 🙂 Mapag-aral nga dun ang mga anak ko.

I can say that candidate no.5 is simple..She has her own beauty..although not really beautiful.We were schoolmate in UP.May ginagamit kasi sya kaya pumuputi .Bea is right.di siya maputi before.
Pero deserving naman ang mga nanalo di ba?At least may nakuha siyang special award.That was really enough for her.
Simple lang naman talaga ang looks ng Candidate no.5.
Schoolmate ko siya nung High school,but during that time
di pa ganyan ang skin niya.Nag-improve na talaga ang looks niya.Maraming magaganda sa school namin kaysa sa kanya.Di ko lang sure kung nagparetoke siya,basta di ganyan ang itsura niya nun.Brown complexion siya dati.And to inform you,di niya relative si Mia ng sexbomb.
Oh,well..simple lang naman ang looks ng candidate no.5 kahit di talaga pang-beauty queen.
Relative ba niya si Mia Pangyarihan ng sex bomb?May similarity kasi sila.
Well,siya ang napili sa Best in talent okay na rin yun kaysa wala siyang nakuha.Deserving naman ang mga title holder.

Much has been said pro and against the winners, all girls should be commended. I admire Ms. Jane’s tenacity, a quality of a person with a beauty beyond superficial. Her confidence is an echo of past beauty queens successful in the international arena. Looking at her images; her smile reflects sweetness and determination thus, in success or defeat others cannot just break her apart.
Let her enjoy her glory.

Not all of them are for this kind of Beauty contest.

Next time pumili naman sana ang organizer ng Mutya ng Pilipinas na qualified for this kind of Beauty Contest tulad nina Michelle Aldana.Mutya Crisostomo.
I was really disappointed this year.I have not seen a real beauty like Michelle Aldana.

Why candidate no.5 proclaimed Best in talent?
The other candidates were good compared to her.
Wrong decision!
U have to give credit to the lady. She just made up the stint that she did at the talent night. Unlike the others who were prepared for their pieces and all, hers was a spontaneous act. And a good one at that. She was talking to her audience, and relating to them. She captured them. For me that’s the most important thing, and probably the main reason why she won. I think she deserves it. Everybody else thinks so too 🙂

how can anybody be a part of Mutya ng Pilipinas if /when a candidate is not even fluent in either Tagalog or English? A candidate should be a least a resident of the Philippine Republic for at least 5 years, went to a Philippine school or university and a proud representative of the beautiful pinay lady! Not the one with light eyes and a pale skin. Caucasian beauty should be representing the Philippines. They represent their own countries where they grew up, went to school work, etc. These caucasian contestants are tourist in the Philippines. They don’t have the right to represent the Philippines in my humble opinion.

I was so disappointed about the outcome of the result of the Mutya ng Pilipinas title holders..
About Miss Tourism – Jacqueline Schubert- accdg to my sources , she can’t even speak or communicate English- I wonder how the judges base their points in Q&A- and how can they possibly know the answer in German language? or they are guessing on the answers.
The judges was not fare or the Mutya organizers- how can they pick the overseas tiltle to someone who is not even in the 12 finalist. I believe they are more candidates in Mutya 2009 who are more deserving to wear this crown and other titles. On those days the candidates were staying in Baler- they are so much tension- some of them feels they are being single out- giving them hard time on their practice- other candidates were given time to rest- but some of them has to be there- giving them the hard timeand making them feel to quit. t- little things that make them so irritated and out of focus., things were being switch around- shoes, sash – all the favoritism and dirty games was played out.
Other candidates who won on other challenges or competition in Baler was promised to have a placement on top12.. – Whatever happened to that strategy. Some candidates were not ready to play this games- favoritism,
jealousy, or too envy to accept that they are the one who deserves to win- but by destructing them is one way to bring them down.
your right shelly… it wasn’t fair, according to my friend who got a friend who joined in that pageant… woooohhh…. according to him (my friend’s friend) some are resting while others are pourin off their sweat…. shame on those who are at erst all the time…
meron di nakasali dito…yung contestant na nanalo ng mutya in singapore…apparently di pinayagan ng school na mag-leave for the competition…late na yung advise nya so di na naabisuhan yung 1st runner up…tsk tsk…
at may gana pang humirit na sya pa rin daw yung sasali next year?!! hahaha…
