Who Am I?
Golly, where do i begin to tell you who I am?
Well, first of all, I’m a child of God and the beauty queen crowns I used to wear are laid before His feet.
I am the wife of the most amazing man (Ron Titular) and can’t believe I’m madly in love with him after 17 18 19 years…
I am the mother of 2 lovely grown children, Wolf and Diandra, who make me proud every day.
Am also a doggie mom to my adorable chihuahua Ramses and my miracle askal Bailey.
My ministry is The Edge Radio. (Please click if you like Christian Music)
I blog like a maniac.
I am a voice talent and make a fine living out of it. (Click here to listen to some of my projects.)
I am a news presenter for Channel 9 – my newest current job.
I am a Beauty Queen with two titles: Ms. Young Philippines 1981 and Bb. Pilipinas 1985.
Although I feel jurassic, my photos tell me otherwise.
I work out in the gym at least 3 times a week.
My weakness is Red Wine and Grapes. God has defeated this weakness (and the cravings) so goodbye to red wine and hello to a SPIRIT-FILLED and VICTORIOUS life!
I dream of becoming a Romance Novelist or a Soap Opera actress one day…
Most of all… I love to go on ADVENTURES!!!

Miss Burton. There’s this behind-the-scenes video from Miss Universe 1985 on Youtube where you figure quite prominently. I wonder if you’ve seen it. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNt2hUf-CgQ
Hi, Joyce how are you? I would like to say thank you for making the website “Adventures of a Beauty Queen”. I like the website and I will visit this website to inquire about the incoming beauty pageants. I like this website compared with the other websites because some of them can post their comments rudely and unprofessionally. The fans of yours are nice in posting their comments. They are not arguing to each other.
Also this website about the beauty and lifestyle of beauty queens. This is nice also for the ladies who want to be future beauty queens. Are there any fellow beauty queens who are subscribed to your website? I am sure that they will like the website also.
During your reign as Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1985, I was a 3rd year high school student on that time. You did not change very much and you are still beautiful until now. My question is …Did you enter in a showbiz? or became a movie actress? I know that there are many beauty queens who became a movie actress later but some of them didn’t last longer in the showbiz? Have a nice day always.
I am an avid fan of almost every pageant and recently ko lang nalaman ang blog site na ito. After watching you at Unang HIrit when they interviewed you about the signs that could have been a premonition (it looks like signs from above nga by now) of the winning of Megan Young as MW 2013, i instantly love the way you talk, the infos that you are sharing and found myself rushing to visit this blog site of yours and found so much informations to my delight that it won’t be a complete day for me without visiting Adventures of a beauty queen.
Thank you for sharing information about our queens because of this i am updated to what is happening even though i am busy with my work.
You know what you are doing because you’re a true Beauty Queen.
Hope one day i can learn how to blog from you.
Thank you and God Bless..
Hi Arni, thanks so much for your kind words, I love to write and I enjoy sharing the stories of our beauty queens. I do teach how to blog but it’s just an occasional thing. I’ll be flying tho to Thailand in Nov. to teach blogging to a group of young Christians from around the world so I’ll be watching Miss U from there via live stream. It will be sad because I’ll be watching alone, huhuhu… but with the Internet, I can connect to other fans of pageantry… Maybe one day I can share with you a few tips that I learned over the past 5 years of blogging…
Thank you Miss Joyce and I’ll be waiting for your reliable updates about pageantry. I’m also looking forward for the tips that you can share with me about blogging cause i would like to start blogging about pageantry of course. Ara Arida and I are both from Laguna so maybe i could also share information. hehe..
God Bless your trip to Thailand. Be safe.
Please dig up your MU 85 vault and post photo’s, tell us how you got along with your room mate, did men chase you in Miami? what was the behind the scenes experience, who was nice and who was not? did you get much sleep rehearsing for such a grueling competition. How did the girls feel at the outcome, I could see Miss England and Germany at the background looking disappointed, they all wanted Spain to win, Zaire was great as was Canada and Chile. Miss Israel was gorgeous but she seemed reserved and shy.
Nice pageant website. I’m a pageant fan. It would be an honor If you would love to do a guest post on my site http://www.pageantanswers.com/ for my readers on the post title: “Pageant questions tips from a former Miss Philippines”. Thanks!
sure! here’s my email – jaedeelight@yahoo.com lets communicate via email 🙂
Good Day Ms. Joyce! 🙂
I saw your interview this morning at TV5 and I instantly became one of your avid fans 🙂 Your life story is such an inspiration for everyone 🙂 I hope to read all your articles, papers and that book that your working on right now 🙂
Stay Inspired and God Bless 🙂
Sincerely,
Jayron 🙂
Thanks Jayron!!! I love to share and hope that others learn from my mistakes and victories, God bless you!
Hi Ms. Joyce,
Becca Music Inc. wants to invite you to an exclusive media night, where we present the upcoming Christian concerts and events lined up for the year. We also wanted to contact you as one of the speakers for that night. What email may I send the official invite to?
We will give away freebies (tickets, etc.) and inside info on our events and artists during this night. Please check http://www.beccamusic.com for some of our previous events. Thank you!
Hi Regina, Stan knows how to contact me 🙂 you can also send email to jaedeelight@yahoo.com. But I am not sure how I could help as a speaker since I am more of a music appreciator rather than a musician 🙂 but if I can help, eh di why not?
I can never be so proud as Gabe’s mom when someone else not from our turf re-affirms her answer in the Q&A in Mutya ng Pilipinas last December 2. I’d like to thank the writer of Adventures of a Beauty Queen for giving Gabe the best “evidence” she can ever have as a full pledged beauty & brains with a heart!
Q&A Comment from Diandra – For me Gabrielle Ericka Tilokani gave the best answer. Tilokani was asked what she learned outside of school. Gabrielle Tilokani said in the competition she learned to value friendship because friendship lasts longer than a crown.
Congratulations to your daughter Gabrielle for a great performance! THanks so much for visiting my blog 🙂 we’re both super proud Moms because of our beautiful and intelligent daughters!
Hi, its the same Anonymous that commented on the Dianne Necio makes it to Top 15/Gwendoline Ruais is 1st Runner-Up posts.
Sus ko po, only now I learn that you were a BINIBINING PILIPINAS TITLE HOLDER? :O Its an honor.
Bb. Pilipinas 1985 – Joyce Burton. 1985? Medyo matagal na iyan ah, but you seem to be in your 30’s in your blog avatar. :> Naksss.
I immediately did some research on youtube. According to the parade of nations video and the official photo posted above, stunning and pretty ka pala NOON. What about now? Blooming and beautiful naman ngayon. :> Double naksss.
Just curious ah, how was Miss Universe back in 1985? And this may seem a bit blunt, why no placement? Kasi, that killer (in a good way) face you possess (at least in that official photo) will go a long way.
Funnny ka talaga! Hoy i am in my mid-40s na. The blog avatar was taken last year if not the year before. My facebook has my most current photos and if you allow me to brag, I stillll looook adorably CUTE! Punta ka sa FB ko – Joyce Burton Titular – I think all my photos are public naman. Saka you can watch me on TV if you have access to Channel 9. I am now their news anchor.
Of course pretty ako noon (at ngayon) but there were some things that hampered my bid for Miss U and if you do more research, you’ll find out why. But the bottomline is this – I am so proud of competing in Miss U 1985 – it is one of the battlescars that make me who I am today. It is also a reminder to stay humble always! Thanks for visiting my blog and I appreciate your thoughts and comments… God bless!!!!
Ayan, binonggahan ko na ang research ko.
http://www.missosology.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=106503
Look at this thread, maybe you’ve seen it before. It has a lot of info on you…
Aba, Miss Young International 1981 semifinalist? Nice! And ano ba iyan, all that ek-ek on taking the Miss Young title away from you. Bitter lang sila at nanalo ka wahahaha =)). Just because you don’t have a Filipino last name, it doesn’t mean you aren’t Filipino.
And look at those pictures, you look amazing! :O
“I had NO time. ZERO time to prepare and that was a BIG, MAJOR, HUGANTIC mistake! When I won, I was given 2 or 3 days to pack up for the Ms. Universe pageant and had NO idea of what to expect NO chance to ask previous winners for their advice.”
BAKIT NAMAN GANYAN HUHU. 😦 Only 2 days? Why was Bb. Pilipinas held so close to the actual Miss Universe date? Sayang naman! With good preparation, I’m dead sure you could’ve placed in the top 10. Top 5 even. I did some more research. May scores pa noon, and Deborah Carthy Deu came in 5th to enter top 5. If you placed in that top 5, you bumped her off. She’d be in 6th, and will only be a Top 10 finalist, and not MU 1985. Spain might’ve won, or you might’ve won.
Well, all of those could-have-beens. You were and you are a true Filipina at heart, and you represented us magnificently.
Hakuna Matata, crsipy pata! 🙂
My bigger problem was my citizenship. Can of worms ito. Let’s save it for kwento together one day? Thanks my dear, but it was not meant for me to shine in Miss U. God had other plans and I’m quite satisfied with what He has shown in my life thus far! Magaling ka pala mag-research, Hakuna Matata, hindi ako bolera!
Hey Joyce, nice to see this blog of yours. Hope you get more time to blog.
Thanks Chino!!! 🙂 glad to see you found my Blog 🙂
In your Gandang Pinoy advice, you mentioned about flaxseed oil being good for stretchmarks. Were can I buy one? Well, I’ve actually checked Healthy Options and they sell flaxseed oil in capsules. Is it the same? I thought topical dapat ang treatment. Help!
Dapat topical ang treatment. You can get the oil version at Healthy Options. But it has to be kept cool. So Healthy Options keeps it in a ref. So if you are planning to buy some you have to make baon a cooler so it stays cool. Next time, ask Healthy Options staffers for Flax Oil, they might just be out of stock or they can call a different branch to see if they have it in stock. Using Flax Seed Oil on stretch marks is not a miracle treatment tho… It takes time and it also depends on how severe the marks are… there are more aggressive creams that a derma can suggest. But if you want to do it that natural way – with no harsh chemicals, try mo muna ang flax seed oil. Give it several months. Then if it needs more treatment, go na to a derma 🙂
Hi Ms. Joyce,
I’m a big fan and I’m hoping you can help me! I really wanted to have a great skin like yours and be a beauty queen someday but I can’t afford the costly derma treatments. My friends recommended that I use whitening products, like soaps and creams, but I’m afraid to try those. They mentioned a new soap they got from XXXXXX that really worked for them I think its XXXXXXX or something though I’m not quite sure if I got it right.
They really swear by it. Maybe some of you fans may have an idea about this product if it really works? I’m really desperate. Hope you can help me. Thanks a lot!
Hi Janice, sorry, I removed the names of the drugstore and the soap you mentioned – I don’t believe in skin whitening products kasi. I believe we should all be proud of the skin color we have 🙂 I am maputi but to tell you the truth, I admire dark skin ALOT! I envy my daughter who has golden brown skin, she is GORGEOUS! But if you really want to make your skin beautiful then here is my formula: live happy, face problems with a lot of humor, love people even the bad ones, SLEEP 8 HOURS every night, exercise and try to eat healthy (no fried or fast foods and stick to brown rice), eat a lot of fish like Salmon, use sun protection everyday and at night make sure to cleanse then tone then moisturize your face. See the derma once or twice a year… and love God with all of your heart mind and soul – if you can do that, I promise you, you will be glowing!
I just read an article last Saturday in PDI, written by Bayani San diego that allegedly you weren’t able to produce a Philippine passport during your MU stint. Can you clarify? You were allowed to stay in the competition, but your preliminary score were not included? Can you clarify? Is that the reason why BB organization was so strict regarding Phil passport? According to the article your preliminary score were not shown on the broadcast day? I am not sure if you answered this issue in your previous blog articles, but I appreciate your comment coming from a pageant expert and former beauty queen like you.
Hi Joyce,
Im Rania T.Kadret, Miss Iraq 2001, I would love it if you could post pageant photos and your 1985 Miss Universe pageant book , dedicate an entire page to the 1985 Miss Universe pageant, since we don’t get to see much of it on the net.
Hi Raina 🙂 wow, let me see if I have time to do this… I’ve got a full plate but it is a great idea, thanks so much!!!!
The 1985 was one of the best Editions you could seriously get to interact with fans, and I recommend that you start training and preparing girls who want to compete in Miss Universe. You represented the Phillippines beautifully.
Thank you Rania! Miss U 1985 was one of the best things that happened to me! I was going thru so much at the time and did not really appreciate my title then but I have come to realize that being a Filipina Beauty QUeen is such a HUGE blessing 🙂 thanks much for your kind words…
you can watch the entire show here
love it! Thanks for the link!!!

Hi Joyce,
We were schoolmates in high school, the former Benedictine Abbey. It’s so great to chance upon you when Jomar Hilario mentioned your blog in one of our seminars.
I enjoyed reading this page and I’m sure I’ll be coming back for more. God Bless!
Hi there! Jomar is one of my BFFs and he is just downright awesome 🙂 thanks for visiting my blog! Am going to check yours out right now…
finally, someone who really understands pageant trends. parul for universe! thanks ms joyce.
🙂 not everyone sees what we see in her and thats why its so exciting this year. Many diff combinations of winners are possible. but you can count on me to support whoever wins tomorrow. if parul wins then we know we jive with Paula Shugart’s taste. im assuming she’ll have first dibs on the girl she thinks will do well in Brazil…
hey, miss joyce ,
how are you? i hope you appreciate my kindness…thank you po. and have a nice day.
Can’t discuss the full details of the pageant here…hope you’ll consider this invitation. 🙂 Thanks. 🙂
Not a problem 🙂 totally understand – you can email me at jaedeelight@yahoo.com thanks much for considering me!
Hi Ms. Joyce!

Hi Ms Claire! My email is jaedeelight@yahoo.com thanks much!
MA’AM JOYCE,
YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY BECAUSE IT IS ALWAYS MY HONOR TO ALWAYS COMMENT HERE ON YOUR BLOG !!! IF I HAVE TIME… AND ALSO BECAUSE YOU ARE MY INSPIRATION IN MY LIFE ! AGAIN TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF ALWAYS !!!! I WILL STILL & WILL COMMENT HERE NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED !!! FOR YOU I WILL PO 😉
hi again ms. jaedee..
Thank you po for letting me know the real meaning of your religious view 😉 thank you also for you being an very understanding friend of mine… sana po your laptop is always with you so that i can comment here in your blog always because we here at work have a policy about face book face book is not allowed here anymore so here na lang po ako nag sha share ng lahat ng gusto kong malaman mo even if we are both too busy in our diffrent work 😉 yesterday morning i wrote on your face book wall that i missed all of your messages on my face book & also your chat if we are both on line & also you ms. jaedee i miss you po ma’am 😉 just always let me know that you are always fine ! & safe !!!! again if i got a chance to be w/ you i will maybe after my current work here at barangay hall !!! ah ma’am joyce i have a question to you about animation & graphic design the reason why is i want to have a diffrent job aside from my job here does an animator trained first before they became a professional? this plan was already in my mind since last last week…. i realized that the money tht i got from our monthly salary is not enough for me. ms. joyce sana po meron for me to be able to enhance my knowledge about computer aside from my skills making my own email account @ yahoo you know what ma’am j ann i have many ambitions for myself & for my family !!!! my greatest ambition in life when i was in high school is to became an animator or if not to became a graphic designer….. god bless you po always !!!!!! i must say that i am so lucky to be your friend !!!! & i’m so lucky also to have you………………………………………….. 🙂
Yes, although I am not an animation expert or a graphics design person, I believe you have to study or train for that type of work. You can try applying as an assistant or secretary in one of the graphics design offices and then you might get free training… or just invest in classes. Not sure where you can go to do this but I think if you search the internet you will find schools in Manila that teach this. Thanks for your letter!
hi ms joyce,
am just curious about when u said in ur interview…the late chat silayan is ur mom’s classmate in pwu…chat was 1980 bb pil-universe…and u were 1985 bb pil-universe..
in only a 5 years ahead of her title..papano nagyari yun? chat was only 21 during her time of winning…am just really curious..thanks..
Dear Arnel! When I wrote about that I was going to explain that my Mom went back to school – to finish college – when I was a little girl. She was in her 30s na and was the oldest student in her class. But then hahaba pa ang kwento. Besides, sharp people like you would notice such a detail and hopefully ask. Now I can explain…
My Mom came from a very very poor family. She sacrificed her education and started working as a cabaret and night club singer (think Bayside on Roxas Blvd) at a very young age. When she married my Dad, she decided to return to school to get a degree but then she had to wait because my sister and I were born. She went to two colleges – Lacson College (on Harrison St.) and PWU (where Chat was her classmate but only in the subject of Taxation).
We always assume that people go to college right after high school but not everyone follows the common pattern. 🙂 Mom eventually finished her schooling and graduated with honors in the field of Nutrition. I am so so so proud of her!
DEAR, MS. JAEDEE….. =)
I AM HOPING THAT YOU’RE IN A GOOD CONDITION IT’S BEEN A LONG LONG TIME SINCE YOU REPLY ON MY LAST COMMENT…. YOU KNOW WHAT I JUST WANT TO SAY SORRY PO FOR NOT WATCHING YOUR PROGRAM NEWS WATCH THESE DAYS THE REASON WHY IS OUR REMOTE CONTROL ON TV IS NOT WORKING MAYBE IT IS BROKEN… I JUST ALSO LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU ARE FINE & THAT’S ALL SANA YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS NOW IS WORKING ALREADY FOR US TO BE ABLE TO EXCHANGED OUR CONVERSATION TO ONE ANOTHER AGAIN SO SORRY FOR NOT WATCHING YOUR PROGRAM I REALLY UNDERSTAND THAT YOU’RE ALWAYS BUSY AT WORK THAT’S WHY YOU WASN’T BE ABLE TO ALWAYS RESPOND TO ALL OF MY COMMENTS HERE ON YOUR BLOG…. SANA PO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE YOU WILL READ & SEE THIS COMMENT THANK YOU PO…… TAKE ALWAYS & MAY GOD BLESSED YOU ALWAYS 😉 THERE IS ONE THING THAT I WANT TO ASK YOU AGAIN MS. JAEDEE WHAT IS THE MEANING OF YOUR RELIGION BIBLE THUMPER OR BIBLE THUMPING CHRISTIAN???????????????? IS THAT A BORN AGAIN RELIGION SORRY FOR ASKING YOU THAT KIND OF QUESTION I KNOW THAT IT’S KINDA WEIRD FOR YOU TO HEAR THAT 😉 BUT I AM JUST CURIOUS ABOUT YOUR RELIGION………………………………………………………………….. =)
Hi kesh I’m a born again Christian. Bible thumpers are people who always thump their bibles and point to God’s word as the final authority on all matters. bible thumpers are extreme people but I am not that extreme so its partly a joke that I call myself a bible thumper.
Don’t apologize for missing my newscasts. Even I don’t get to watch myself at all, ahahaha!
Dear Joyce…
Just checked out your blog.. ABQ .. so aptly named Adventures of a Beauty Queen… Didn’t realize you could right so well as a blogger and as an objective, albeit, pleasant sounding critic…
as everyone knows, you’re one of the country’s favorite beauty queens whose lovely face and oozing talent continue to grace local TV, I think the major global networks start doing their research and discover (once again?) our gem of a lady named Joyce Anne Burton- Titular.. well, as you wrote in one of your blog quips, “unless they’re blind” har har..
my pleasure to offer you the photos taken by me and my company called “TGS & A”.. which you also credited accordingly as such… thanks!
it was such a pleasure witnessing with you at 7th HIGH club the MS EARTH Top 10 Finalist presentation by your fellow Beauty Queens Peachy V and Lorraine S.’s team last May 25… I would certainly endorse your Blog to my friends so they could enjoy “reading the stars” courtesy of a Beauty Queen – the real Crush ng Bayan of the 80’s – herself!
See you again soon!
TG Serrano
TG!!!! I am SO glad you shared your table with me. I would have been bored out of my skull if it weren’t for you!!! We have to do this again, you are a fun pageant buddy 🙂 please stay in touch and thanks so much for your kind words about my blog. Hi Kesha:
Thanks for sharing your story here on my blog. Although you don’t have parents on earth anymore, you do have Abba Father who is more than enough. He will give you what you lost 7x over if He is the center of your life. Which brings me to my next point – I don’t believe in horoscopes. I believe that God sets the pattern of my life; His word is what guides me everyday. I don’t look to horoscopes or the stars or animal signs for who I am because my identity is already in Christ. When you understand that then you will find peace in your life and be content. God bless you!
Alright, I got your note that your father is living. THat is wonderful! WHen you called yourself an orphan it suggested that your parents were both in heaven. 🙂 anyway, if you have anything personal to share with me please email it to me instead of putting it here in the comments section. Information such as phone numbers etc will be deleted. jaedeelight@yahoo.com I may not be able to respond to all email because I receive a huge volume of letters everyday…

Good day Ms Joyce!
I stumbled upon your blog by accident [through mindless googling] and I can safely say that my day is complete! 🙂
I am a proud queer who adores beauty pageants ever since I was a kid. Now that Im turning 28, the passion for pageantry is still very much alive.
From hereon, I will be visiting your blog for updates and scoops about your life as well as inside-stories about beauty pageants if you have any, haha!
Btw, I am a wannabe photographer as well and I hope someday I get to have the opportunity to have a fun and casual shoot with you. One of my dreams is to shoot a beauty queen. Yeah, my must-do before I expire. :-0
Cheers!

Hi there! After checking out your tres cool blog I can see you’re pretty good at your hobby of taking photos. Maybe we can do your shoot one day! As for smoking, I must confess I am a former smoker WHO IS SUPER THANKFUL SHE BROKE THE HABIT! Hoping you break yours for the sake of your two lovely lungs and perhaps, you never know, your future children. I have gay friends who decided to marry and have kids. Also gay friends who adopted. And as you surely know, kids are not compatible with smoking 🙂 okay, I’m making sermon na here, sorry, it comes with the age LOLOLOL and the experience too of once being a smoker. Kicked the habit after a meeting with God… one day I will make that kwento… but thanks for sharing your uber cool blog and dropping a note. Nice making your acquaintance Sam!

I hope you can share photos of the 1985 Miss Universe pre-pageant . I used to have a swimsuit photo of you with Miss Germany (Stephanie Roth) published in Tempo. We didn’t have any idea what evening gown you wore.
Do you keep in touch with your Bb.
plilipinas 85 co-winners?
Sabrina Artadi (International) was featured in the news many years ago after an incident with a foreigner husband.
Luisa Gonzales (Maja) is now Mrs. Agana, and no updates on her whereabouts now.
Divina Cristina Alcala (Young International) used to be very active on facebook, she is based in Indonesia.
One of your runners-up joined Mutya on the same year, Glenah Marie Slaton. She won Mutya – Asia Pacific.
Hi Raymond!!! You might be terribly disappointed but I never took things seriously at that age and did not collect photos. However, I have pageant fans who are my friends and they have photos of me. My evening gown was a red backless number by Renee Salud. It’s in my Mom’s house. Sabrina Artadi is my facebook friend, she designs kaftans. Isa Gonzales is now into the fahion business. We modelled together a lot after my Miss U. Tina Alcala chats with me sometimes on FB. Yes I remember Glenah! Wow, this is a blast from the past!!!
Hi Joyce,
Actually it’s my first time to read your blog in the internet. really admire you of becoming Ms.Philippines Universe in 1985.
That makes me aspire more in following my dream of becoming a Beauty Queen someday, despite of my low self-esteem.
God Bless to you and your family.
Love,
Rajita
Hey, i used to suffer from low-self esteem, when I was growing up. Went through lots of issues and stuff but God is good, He is the one who lifted me up so I am MUCH MUCH better now and have realized that I am very special, a winner and beautiful. The fact that God bothered to give me (and everyone) unique DNA shows me that I’ve got value and that wallowing in self-pity is telling God that I don’t believe in his ability to create wonderful things. You can make a breakthrough in your life Rajita!!!
hi ms joyce! great site and blog info! keep it up!
btw, we would like to exchange links with you. we hope that you will consider. ^^

Hi, Joyce how are you? I know that Miss Universe 1974 was held in Manila, Philippines and Guadalupe Sanchez was our representative and landed in 12 semi-finalists.
Where’s Guadalupe Sanchez now? I wish that she’s still beautiful and in good condition.
Have a nice day always.

Hi Joyce, how are you? I would like to thank you first for making this website. This is a nice website and I think that you are only a beauty queen in Philippines to have an idea in making this website. This is inspirational website to everyone not only to the beauty queens and inspiring beauty queens. I remember that you are a well-known beauty queen when I was in High School. You are still young and beautiful!
Anyway, any news where are the beauty queens in 1950’s now like Teresita Sanchez (first representative to Ms. Universe in 1952), Cristina Pacheco, Bessie Ocampo (Miss Universe 1954 semi-finalists), Yvonne delos Reyes, Isabel Rodriguez, Annie Corrales, Chuchay Tuazon, and Cristina Matias?
Hi, Joyce how are you? I know that next month is already Miss Universe 2010. I wish that our candidate. Maria Venus Raj, will win 3rd crown.
Anyway, any news about our past beauty queens in 1950’s? Where are they now? I wish that they are still alive so that you can meet them, interview, and join in blogging at this website. Here’s some information about our past beauty queens for Miss Universe in 1950’s. They are naturally beautiful, too:
1952 – Teresita Sanchez (1st Representative to Miss Universe)
1953 – Christina Pacheco
1954 – Bessie Ocampo (Miss Universe 1954 Semi-Finalists)
1955 – Yvonne delos Reyes
1956 – Isabel Rodriguez
1957 – Annie Corrales
1958 – Chuchay Tuason (did not compete)
1959 – Christina Matias

I know that they can share their experience and moments during their reign. They can help a lot to the inspiring beauty queens.
Have a nice day always.

Hi Ms. Joyce,
I was told that you teach flight attendants, hence, this query. My youngest sister is a tall 12 yr old freshman high school student and she really wanted to be a flight attendant someday. But no one in our family knows what course to take to be one. That is why we need your advice.
This early my mom and I would like to prepare her to achieve her dream by enrolling her in Korean Language Class, Swimming and next if the budget permits is John Robert Powers.
Your time and reply will be highly appreciated . Thank you very much and more power.
Jakki =)
Hi Jakki! Yes I do help train flight attendants. Please email me at jaedeelight@yahoo.com I am not active teaching anymore but I have lots of friends in the industry and might be able to help. Chinese might be a better language to learn. Or French. EVEN BETTER is if she improves her English communication (unless magaling na siya mag-English of course:) Swimming is good and John Robert Powers is great! She is on the right track. I totally believe in early training!!!
Make sure na wag siyang magkapeklat, ingatan ang balat, take care of the teeth too and make sure she is not too fat or too thin. The proper weight is 100 lbs plus 5 lb for every inch above 5 feet. So kung 5″9″ the proper weight is 145lbs. Plus or minus 5 lbs. Stay in touch!
Wow! You’re really the Joyce Ann Burton, the Bb. Pilipinas whom I use to imitate when i was a little girl. I admit I am a closet beauty queen. I don’t have the height and the figure to be a beauty queen but i do celebrate beauty in my own way, by supporting and promoting beauty pageant around the web.
My latest project is the website dedicated for the upcoming Miss Universe 2010 (http://www.missuniverse2010.net/). Can I invite you to be my guest writer?
Sure would love to be your guest writer – email me the details ha – jaedeelight@yahoo.com
can you give us updates on miss anna lorraine kier, binibining pilipinas- universe 1977? she is one of my fave binibinis…
i still vividly remember the last line of her winning answer during the 1977 edition of …” and to fill the world with love…”
i love the top quality of your blog…kudos!
Anna Lorraine Kier is happily married and living in Baguio. She has lovely daughters and if I am not mistaken one of her daughters happens to have the same name as my daughter – Diandra. I will facebook her and find out… 🙂
hi ms joyce, i have always been an ardent admirer of yours since you won two national beauty titles:miss young philippines and binibini 1985… long before there was a carlene aguilar who won two national titles, there was you …
the 1985 edition of binibini would always be special for me because a fellow boholano made the top 15 and was a lux lady and that lady is taina manigque now mrs. mike stone…
i remember i was with my dorm mates in ateneo de cagayan back in july 1985 when the miss u was held in miami..a collective groan came up when you missed the first cut but we knew you did your best..
i wonder if you could share your memoirs and give us the dish on debrah carthy deu and theresa sanchez…my fave was miss uruguay who eventually placed fifth to ms. carthy deu…’
best wishes and regards. good luck on your endeavors and in your mission to save the world in your swimsuit..LOL
Wow! I’m amazed… I think your memory is better than mine. Deborah wasn’t very friendly but she wasn’t unfriendly either. The first runner up, Ms Venezuela was one of my best friends! Thanks much, I did my best and was heartbroken for awhile for not winning. But… life goes on and if you stop too long, you might fall off it’s edge 🙂 regarding saving the world in a swimsuit, I’d like to clarify that with my extra 20 or 30 pounds, its a one piece with a tapis!
i think venezuela was 3rd runner up… the 1st runner up that time was miss spain.. IMHO, she was more deserving than miss puerto rico.
i have bookmarked your site already
one of these days, we will invite you to be a judge or resource speaker here in bohol for our pageantry world is alive and kicking well
regards
Ah, your memory is better than mine. Spain was part of our barkada – I hung out with Ms USA and the hispanics – Ms USA (Laura Martinez Herring) as you most likely know is half Mexican and speaks Spanish fluently so she would translate everything for me since I was the only non-spanish-speaking girl in the group. Yes, Spain was (and still must be) gorgeous and if I were a judge I think I would have chosen her as winner – but then I am biased bec she was in my Ms U barkada… hehehehe
YEY!!! Your memory is better than mine, LOLOLOL! Would love to visit Bohol and help out 🙂
Hello,
we are covering the Miss Earth. Please check out our website and consider us as your source for photos in your blog.
Please send me email so we can discuss further. A friend referred me to you.
KO
Konrad, hahaha! yes, my photos are not even half as beautiful as yours! I just use a little point and shoot coz if i bought a giant camera it would kill my gorgeous shoulders. LOLOL!!! Thanks SUPER for the offer, I will email you. I just have to file my taxes today….
Great blog. Just happened to it by accident.
Did you use to go to the Army-Navy Club near Luneta?
Yes I literally grew up in Army Navy Club… almost every weekend during the school year and almost every day during the summer my family went to Army Navy Club. I have GREAT memories of that place. Are you one of the army navy kids?
Well not quite a kid (was already in HS and college) when I went to ANC. You’re right, lots of great memories hanging out at ANC.
I saw them shoot the movie Purple Hearts at ANC. I think I even got an autograph from one of the stars.
You remember where you were when historic events happen … I was “studying” at the library on Aug 21, 1983 when it seemed the entire ANC got quite because of the events that morning.
Loved the pool with the view of Manila Bay and of course the food at the Sunset Lounge.
Anyway, haven’t been home since 1985 and I heard the ANC is now a restaurant.
Great memories though …
YES I totally remember the Purple Hearts shoot and saw Cheryl Ladd in person walking through the August hallways of Army Navy Club. She was a Charlie’s Angel but when I saw her I was disappointed – she seemed scrawny and pale. Not the bombshell I saw on TV. Of course I was just a child then and so focused on the surface. LOLOLOL!!
Last time I was at ANC, only the tennis court, field, bayside resto and pool were open. The whole building (where the Sunset Lounge and Library were) is condemned. How saaaaaad!!! They have to turn it into a museum kasi grabe ang historic value ng Army Navy Club!!!

Hi Joyce!
I am so proud of how you described yourself as being a child of God first and foremost. I believe that whatever career we have right now is just incidental and that we are created for a higher purpose—to glorify God in all things we do. Thank you for using your talent in spreading His word. Keep the faith, be bold and strong for the Lord. May your ministry always be blessed and continue to be a blessing to others.
