The Intercontinental Confusion Surrounding Christi McGarry
I discovered this morning, March 17, 2015, that this particular article was quoted by Pep heavily in one of their articles. They did not ask for my permission. While I do not normally mind the press quoting me, I do mind it IF I AM HEAVILY QUOTED WITHOUT PERMISSION.
I will state it here clearly – this blog and this author is 100% in support of Christi McGarry and 100% in support of Bb. Pilipinas. I am praying for a win-win solution regarding the confusion over her Intercontinental crown.
To Pep – relationships are key if you want to be a good and respected journalist. And unfortunately you have taken the first step in destroying your relationship with me. Please do not quote me or my blog again unless I give you permission.

Five seconds after Christi McGarry was called forward as the winner of the Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental 2015 beauty title, I started talking to the space in front of me saying that there was no way she could win that title! I’m a very talkative pageant watcher and vocalize my thoughts even if no one cares to listen.
So I was there in my seat, talking to the air, scratching my head and frowning over what seemed like an intercontental mistake – Christi McGarry cannot win Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental simply because she has ALREADY competed in that international pageant. She placed in the Top 15 and bagged the special Queen of Asia and Oceania award even. I blogged about it in 2010!!!
It was indeed a confusing development. I had to get down to bottom of this mystery so it was the first thing I investigated the moment I got to the victory party of the Bb Pilipinas 2015 winners.
I don’t want to go into details here since my ‘investigation’ was informal so I won’t quote the people I asked. But I will share with you the information I gleaned :
It was indeed an oversight. The judges were reportedly unaware or not informed of Christi’s previous campaign at Miss Intercontinental. But the fact was on her bio. Christi never hid her pageant background. Just go online and you’ll see her string of pageant achievements including her stint at Intercontinental. At the party Christi did tell me that she was confused herself and didn’t know why she won Intercontinental. Since I didn’t want to rain on her party I just told her that I was certain BPCI would sort it out.
How will they do that? My investigation found out that the obvious solution for now is to switch titles between Christi and Rogelie Catacutan, the Bb Pilipinas Supranational 2015 winner. But of course this has to be studied first by the lawyers of BPCI to make sure that no agreements are breached.
Another important observation – BPCI looooooves Christi McGarry. They were quick to tell me that they will surely resolve this snafu and make sure McGarry is not left uncrowned.
This kind of makes me wonder, looking back at her coronation – Christi’s crown was ‘made patong’ on her high pusod in a very awkward way. It looked like it didn’t belong on her head diba? Look at the photo below – ang ‘off’ ng itsura. Perhaps an omen that that title is indeed not meant for her…
I personally feel that Supranational is a better fit for McGarry who is one of my favorites even from before. And I think she will take that pageant by storm. What do you think?
