Congratulations to Filipina Nicole Schmitz for Entering the Top 15 in Miss International 2012!
Just hours after Ayelee Dasalla’s 2nd Runner-up success at the Miss Humanity International 2012, the Philippines reaps another pageant honor!
Adventures of a Beauty Queen congratulates Nicole Schmitz for making it into the Top 15 of the Miss International 2012 beauty pageant that just ended in Okinawa, Japan!
Nicole Schmitz had a sizable following in the audience and applause followed her whenever she came out on stage and I believe we can thank the Filipino community not just in Okinawa but Japan for the unabashed support!
After the Top 15 were selected, each candidate had to give a speech for the final competition. All of the top 15 ladies gave their speeches in English except for Miss Venezuela. Just want to thank the girls who struggle with English for their effort!
Although my clothes went out of fashion twice during the entire pageant, I do appreciate the time each girl is given to showcase her beauty, wardrobe, personality and advocacy. The Miss International is a beauty pageant that truly gives value to all of its contestants because they get more than the usual 3 seconds of fame that other pageants offer. While the Miss International might not be great for TV audiences who seek fast-paced action and drama, it is perfect for online broadcast; this means pageant fans can take a break, raid the refrigerator, discuss their choices, blog about it (like me) and give their dogs a bath. Truly, an empowering pageant!
I also feel really good about the judges at Miss International 2012 taking forever to finalize their decisions. It shows that they take the title seriously and won’t just give it to the prettiest babe on stage. The judges took two giant breaks to argue their choices and the hosts even asked the audience for patience. Wow, if they only knew how late us Filipinos stay for our own pageants…
Congratulations once again to Nicole Schmitz and all her trainers at team Bb. Pilipinas headed by Madame Stella Araneta for a job well done!
MISS INTERNATIONAL 2012 LIST OF TOP WINNERS:
Two Latinas, Two Asians and One European make up the Top Winners of Miss International 2012!
Miss International 2012 – Miss Japan, Ikumi Yoshimatsu (Hmmmm… I’m blindsided by this. Why does this remind of Miss World 2012 in China? Anyway, Ikumi Yoshimatsu wins 2M Yen… and in fairness, when they finally put the crown on her, she looked fabulous! Congratulations to Japan and to all my Japanese friends…)
First Runner-up – Miss Finland (They put on her tiara right at the front of her head so she looked like a bizarre unicorn. A lesson can be learned here? 1 Million Yen Prize.)
Second Runner-up – Miss Sri Lanka (800,000 Yen Prize)
Third Runner-up – Miss Dominican Republic (500,000 Yen Prize)
Fourth Runner-up – Miss Paraguay (funny.. the host said she would get a sachet. Maybe he meant SASH? LOL! Anyway, she gets a 400,000 Yen prize.)
TOP 15 MISS INTERNATIONAL 2012 CONTESTANTS & THE TOPICS OF THEIR SPEECHES:
Those marked in red are my favorite speeches and beauties… (none of my favorites made it into the Top 5, grrrrr…)
Miss Colombia (Became a beauty queen as a way to help others. Her advocacy is child education.)
Miss Brazil (She is a nurse and she dreams of becoming a doctor. Looking out for welfare of people is not just in her profession but in her soul too.)
Miss Japan (Believes that women have endless potential and are uniquely capable of leading the future and in the eyes of our children we can all share the title of the most beautiful and important woman in the world.)
Miss Sri Lanka (believes beauty transcends borders. She aspires to use the title to pass on the message of peace and humanity to every corner of the world.)
Miss Finland (As Miss International, she would dedicate the message of love and peace where she goes. By her actions work and appearance she will be a role model for this generation as a person not afraid to go after her dreams.
Miss Namibia (If she wins she will promote global integration to encourage friendship among the countries to break the barriers of geographical standards. World Peace.)
Miss Venezuela (Spoke in her native tongue so I have NO idea what she said. But she said it confidently and the crowd cheered. Anyone knows what she said?)

Miss Philippines (Believes that even with multicultural diversity we can have peace. She offers herself a s a strong, compassionate, responsible and independent woman for global harmony. Nicole gave a great speech and made me SO proud!)
Miss Paraguay (Biggest experience of her life was at age 18 when she went to a meditation center for 6 months. There she realized that only thing that matters is being happy and the only way to achieve it is to live in the moment. She joined this pageant to communicate this. She got slightly emotional at the tail end.)

You’re right Ma’am Joyce. Astig talaga si Tricia Helfer
Joyce,
I just heard: Is it true that the Miss International Organization moved the pageant back to Japan this year because there was a concerted campaign and pressure from the Chinese organizers to crown its first Chinese winner? This is consistent with China’s appetite for winning another international title especially right after their Miss World win earlier this year. The upshot to all of this, of course, is Japan taking the pageant back to its home turf, and China’s withdrawal from Miss International this year. If there’s some truth in this, it certainly adds another dimension (and a very symbolic one at that) as to why the Miss International Organization finally decided to break its 52-year old tradition and crowned its first Japanese titlist.
Congratssss Nicole
Actually, I thought Nicole would place higher… Maybe not actually win (after seeing all the girls) but at least a runner-up post. I always felt ms Sri Lanka, Japan and even Finland as strong possibilities 🙂 I’m glad they actually placed in the top 3.
For the first time in many years…. I’m excited about the possibility of MW, MI, MU and ME all having asian winners 🙂 the asian girls are pretty strong this year— hopefully we see an Asian Ms Earth and Ms Universe for 2012 🙂 that would be a great celebration for the whole of Asia 🙂 it would be much more of a celebration if Philippines would have a MU and Ms Earth this year— hopefully 🙂
Good day Miss Joyce.. many pageant sites mentioned that the MI result is upredictable but for certain the winner should have a doll like beauty as the past winners can attest.. but for this year , even though its their first win but I think , somebody else in the top 15 deserves it better. i am not sourgraping , but when the judges took a long time deliberating the result , I can feel that they might have somebody else in mind than the crowned winner. .Anyway , winning isn’t everything..
yes well brazil should have entered top five and nicole too, parehong doll-like. but satisfied na ako kay miss japan. she looked honestly surprised at winning. and bagay ang crown sa kanya.
i also enjoyed listening to their speeches and wondered how pinay contestants would fare if ginawa yan ng bb pil or mwp… an interesting thought diba?
You’re right Ma’am Joyce, more appropriate kay Nicole ang may curly hair… Just like Shalom, a Canadian Mega Model in 1992, ka-batch niya si Tricia Helfer, 1992 Ford Supermodel of the World Winner from Canada
i am a Tricia Helfer fan and love her in Battlestar Galactica. Astig na Cylon! Not many supermodel beauty queen types end up as serious actors. But Tricia is excellent and very intense…
Kahit naka bun, nag placed naman si Venus Raj at ginaya pa po eto last year ni Miss Angola na naging Miss Universe Winner etong si Leila Lopes
for me, mas bagay ang high big bun ke venus and angola. nicole was still beautiful with the bun at MI but feeling ko its not the best hairstyle for her type of beauty… mas type ko ung flowing river of soft sexy curls for her
I really believe that Madame Stella TOLD Nicole to bun her hair!!! Can u please tell SMA na 1990 pa yun and it really makes a girl less attractive!!! I notced that in Miss U 2010 during the first 2 weeks of Miss U Venus was sporting the sexy “lugay” look and then once SMA arrived in Las Vegas naka pony tail na at bun si Venus ha!!! SMA stop it please! Look at Nicole in Swimsut and in Evening gown BIG difference. PLUS Nicole never tried a bun look EVER!!!! I have not seen a single photo of her in a bun!!
well, now you have. i dont really mind the high bun look but only certain girls look good in it… i wouldnt know who suggested a high bun for Nicole but whatever the case, she did good battle in Okinawa 🙂
Mas maganda po yung parang si Cristine Reyes na wavy hair po ba tawag nito? yung latest commercial nya.Pang Miss U po kasi ang hairstyle ni Nicole Schmitz, Ma’am Joyce
correct big bun? how to put the crown of ms.international? which mean hindi para sa kanya ang crown.. ,, iam rooting for usa.phil or brazil for the crown.. but they dont even reach top 5.. well ok na rin at least semi finalist c nicole.. ibig sabihin napansin ang beauty niya…
Good day Ma’am Joyce. When I mentioned my personal opinion few days ago, who’s front-runners (probably ended up a Semi-finalist or runner-up) in Miss Int’l. I honestly not mentioned my first instuition that was Miss Japan kasi my pattern akong napapansin since the highest placement since was in 2002 as Hana Urushima won 2nd runner-up. But I was rooting for Miss Philippines to win Miss International…Still I congratulate Miss Philippines Nicole Cassandra Schmitz as 2012 Miss International Semi-Finalist!!! 🙂
well, medyo hindi ko type yung hair ni Nicole na high big bun. did you like it? feeling ko a diff hairstyle would have been better for her beauty. any thoights on this?
I was very sad that Nicole did not even win as runner up. Many candidate was robbed big time in this year’s Ms International.
Joyce — I’m not sure why Japan suddenly decided to break its 52-year old tradition of not giving the title to one of its own, but it finally did this time. After the pageant’s 6-year sojourn in China (now Japan’s declared political nemesis), Japan has indeed taken back ownership of its pageant — literally and figuratively — in a big way. Although I’m happy for the first Japanese ever Miss International, I certainly thought (and I’m sure many others also) that there were definitely several candidates who, in my opinion, were more deserving of the title. And here we were cheering that because the pageant was back in Japan, that it ensured a level playing field! I hope the pageant’s decision to crown its first Japanese titlist doesn’t dampen enthusiasm for the pageant or erode its credibility. But regardless of how one looks at it, any time a host country’s candidate wins, there is always that nagging suspicion and doubt in the back of one’s head as to what really went on with the judges’ panel. But I guess a cynic could say that if China can pull this off with Miss World, Japan can, too, with Miss International.
Oh, I forgot to mention — that cynic would be moi. Unless the candidate is so obviously deserving to win (think of Miss Puerto Rico Denise Quinones who won MU in her home turf back in 2001) this trend of host countries crowning its own candidate can be toxic to international pageantry — and must stop. Now!
maybe thats why judges had such a long time deliberating. thank you for the short history on Miss I. Once every 50 or so years is okay … but i felt , just like you, there were a few more deserving girls. but as i said, when they put the crown on her and i saw her glowing smile i though to myself – happy na rin ako…
Even homely old me would look oh-so-fabulous with that pearl-studded crown on my head (lol!), but seriously, I thought that Ikumi’s more than passing resemblance to a young Empress Michiko might have been the sentimental clincher that sealed it for the Japanese judges.
aahahaaahaha! it IS a very regal crown with magical powers that can multiply the beauty of whoever wears it! now THATS a fine fairy tale… anyway, i am less upset about Japan’s win in Japan than China’s win in China. Mostly because Japan’s win did not have that bullying attitude that China seems to have honed into an unrefined art. Attitudes DO make a difference.
I hope one time Miss world will be held in Spratly Islands and Miss spratly will take the crown
😉
