Beauty Queen’s Sweet 17 in the Ms Intercontinental Pageant 2009

How I envy Hector Joaquin who is in Minsk, Belarus covering the Ms Intercontinental Pageant 2009. But he is most deserving: Hector runs one of the top beauty pageant blogs which covers all the big beauty pageants all over the world. WhileHector Joaquin gets to hang out with the 60 plus ladies competing for the Ms Intercontinental crown which will be given away on the evening of Sept. 27, 2009, I have to depend on the Ms Intercontinental website (which is irritatingly incomplete, grrrr) for photos and information on the contestants. And of course, I have the reliable reports of Hector on his blog.
Meantime let me show you my Sweet 17 Contestants in the Ms Intercontinental 2009 Beauty Pageant:

1) MS AFGHANISTAN – Zallascht Sadat
Miss Afghanistan Zallascht Sadat
I am thrilled that there is a Ms Afghanistan in this pageant. It is so meaningful to have a contestant from a nation that hardly has any women’s rights. Unfortunately, Zallascht Sadat was not crowned in her country; the Ms Afghanistan beauty pageant was organized by a modeling group in Hamburg, Germany in 2008. The German-speaking Afghanistan fashion model Zallascht Sadat was chosen as the first Ms Afghanistan since Zohra Yousuf Daoud was elected in 1972! Zallascht Sadat is currently working toward a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and is organizing a non-profit group to fight AIDS/HIV in Afghanistan. She is not only intelligent, she is also drop dead gorgeous as you can see in the photo above and in her Flickr album here.

2) MS BAHAMAS Dashanique Poitier
Ms Bahamas Dashanique Poitier
I still can’t get over the uniqueness of Ms Bahamas’ name: Dashanique Poitier. And I also cant’ get over her stunning looks. In my opinion, she’s the best bet among the African-American contestants and is almost sure to make it into the semi-finals. She already has pageant experience as Dashanique Poitier happens to be the first ever Miss Teen World Bahamas – a title she won in 2005 when she was only 16. In the Miss Teen World she was 6th place. 3) MS BRAZIL Camilla Brant
Miss Brazil Camilla Brant
When I viewed the information on Ms Brazil Camilla Brant I was surprised to find that she spoke 4 languages. Even more surprising was that one of those languages was TAGALOG! I tried to do some research on Camilla Brant’s background but couldn’t find anything online about her parentage. But I believe that she’s half Filipina – why else would she claim Tagalog as one of her languages? The other three are Portuguese, English and Chinese. Hmmm… could she be a blend of all 4? If anybody can confirm whether my guesses are wrong or right, please leave a note in the comments section, thank MUCH!

4) MS COLOMBIA Veronica Velasquez
Ms Colombia Veronica Velasquez
Veronica Velasquez of Colombia gave one of the most confusing beauty pageant answers in recent pageant history. The Question was something like: Do you believe that a woman is the compliment of a man? And the translation of her answer is this:
Good evening, everyone. I believe that man compliments man, woman compliments woman. Man with man. And also that woman compliments man in the same way, in the opposite sense. And we exist to care for one another, to love one another. A woman is the compliment to a man in a very beautiful sense. Because she gives him love, she cares for him.The world is evolving. And each time we give more love to those men who, in Colombia’s case, were machistas. Once upon a time…
Veronica Velasquez ended up with the 2nd Runner-up title of Ms Colombia 2008 and the right to represent her country, Colombia in the Ms Intercontinental 2009 beauty pageant. Inspite of her roundabout and vaguely lengthy answer, Veronica’s striking beauty is a great gift from God so I’m putting her in my list.

5) MS CZECH REPUBLIC Zina Stovickova
Ms Czech Republic Zina Stovickova
Ms Czach Republic Zina Stovickova has one of the prettiest faces in this batch of Ms Intercontinental hopefuls. She reminds me, sort of, of the actress who plays Arwen in Lord of the Rings, now what was her name again? Anyhoo, Zina Stovickova was 2nd Runner-up at the Ms Czech Republic 2009. Her dream is to open a restaurant one day. She also admires Louis IV for leading France to prosperity during his time.

6) MS ENGLAND Laura Gallagher
Ms England Laura Gallagher
Laura gallagher is a Psychology grad and a part-time model. She represented Walkabout in the Ms England 2009 and made it into the Top 15. She has the type of face I cannot resist calling beautiful.

7) MS HONDURAS Leslie Kristoff
Ms Honduras Leslie Kristoff
Ms Honduras Leslie Kristoff is a journalist by profession but instead of collecting journalistic awards, she’s nabbing beauty titles left and right: Ms G Constellation Model 2009, Miss Piel Dorada 2006 and Miss Latina Internacional 2006 are all hers!!! She was also in the top 15 of the Top Model of the World 2009 pageant. Now who knows what she’ll win on September 27, 2009, the coronation night of Ms Intercontinental 2009 beauty pageant?!!!

8) MS HUNGARY Claudia Dedei Aryee
Ms Hungary Claudia Dedei Aryee
This 23 year old PR Manager speaks three languages: Hungarian, English and Spanish. Her Father is from the African nation of Ghana while her Mother is Hungarian. The mixed background and amazing looks have already given Claudia Dedei Aryee a beauty title: Ms Afro Hungary in 2004.

Ms Panama Yanni Penaloza
Ms Panama Yanni Peñaloza was once the Panamanian representative to the Ms Hawaiian Tropic contest. Her amazing anatomy matched with magnificent melatonin got her into the semifinals of that contest. 11) MS PHILIPPINES Jacqueline Schubert
Ms Philippines Jacqueline Schubert
I am very ticked off that our Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism Jacqueline Schubert doesn’t have a photo in the official website of Ms Intercontinental. I brought this up with Tito de Venecia, the President of the Mutya ng Pilipinas and he surmised that the organizers were too busy to add her. Well, that’s certainly not an excuse at least in my world. Nevertheless, Jacqueline is in Minsk and ready to kick some beauty contestant butt!!! 12) MS POLAND Anna Tarnowska
Ms Poland Anna Tarnowska
Ms Poland Anna Tarnowska has several beauty pageants on her resume. In 2007 she was the runner-up to Barbara Tatara in the Ms Polonia that year. She was also runner-up in the Ms Baltic Sea and Scandinavia pageant. But her biggest haul to date was in November 2008 when she landed 2nd runner-up in the Ms International pageant in Macau, China. I’m hoping she continues her winning streak in the Ms Intercontinental 2009!

If you visit the official website of the Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant, you see that Ms Russia Anna Mezentseva has a photo in ballet toe shoes. It also says that she is a dancer. 14) MS SLOVAK REPUBLIC Lea Sindlerova
Ms Slovak Republic Lea Sindlerova
Lea Sindlerova was pushed by a friend to jioin he Ms Slovenskej Rebpuliky (Ms Slovak Republic) 2009 and ended up winning the vicemess title which is equivalent to 1st Runner-up. The title gave her the right to represent the Czech Republic in the Ms Intercontinental 2009 beauty pageant. Lea Sindlerova is naturally slim (which makes me sorely jealous) and takes advantage of this blessing by eating as much chocolate as she pleases. 15) MS THAILAND Charlene Sathiraboot
Ms Thailand Charlene Sathiraboot
Ms Thailand Charlene Sathiraboot describes herself as a “modern-day hippie” in her Twitter account which carries the monicker Charlie_Boot. How CUUUTE! Charlene Sathiraboot was 2nd Runner-up in the Ms Thailand Universe 2009 beauty pageant. That title gives her the right to represent Thailand in the Ms Intercontinental pageant on September 27, 2009. For me, only two Asians stand out in this year’s Ms Intercontinental: our girl Ms Philippines Jacqueline Schubert and Ms Thailand Charlene Sathiraboot.

Ms Venezuela Hannelly Quintero
Why are all Ms Venezuelas drop dead gorgeous? Because of the strict, long-term regimen that all Ms Venezuela wannabees have to go through under the eagle-eye of Ms Venezuela President Osmel Sousa – the number 1 beauty queen maker in the world. Ms Venezuela Hannelly Quintero has already proven that Sousa’s 6 month beauty queen bootcamp works – she won the Queen of Americas title in the Ms World 2008.

You are exactly right. Busy is not an easy way out of Jacqie Schubert not having a picture published on the website. Publicity is one of the best means of Promotion and Communication.
